It’s So Nice To Be Appreciated

I love my rewarding career more than anything.  There is so much gratification when I see how a house is transformed in a short period of time and it feels great knowing that I am helping people in a stressful time.  Yes, selling your house is stressful!   Each house has it’s own story and circumstances, so everyday is a challenge. I am very fortunate that I only work with the best Realtors in the city.  We work together as a team in order to give the best results to our clients. It was unexpected to receive this letter and …

IKEA Chirstmas Tree All Cut Up

Looking for an inexpensive and personalized way to make exterior winter displays?  IKEA sells their Christmas trees for $20 but then when you spend over $75 at the store in January, you receive a $20 rebate.  Basically, your tree is free. Family Tradition Every year my husband and our two kids get together as soon as the IKEA trees are on the lot.  I know it’s too early to put the real trees indoors, but this is for the exterior of the house.  It doesn’t matter what the tree looks like since it will be all cut up anyway. I …

I Love Getting Testimonials

I received this note from a homeowner who’s house I recently staged and it sold immediately. “Heather’s amazing talent and eye for detail turned our “lived-in” home into a show piece. Agents commented on how well our home showed and the credit is given to Heather. Without her involvement in the selling process, our house would not have sold so quickly. We are so pleased and will be calling on Heather to help us decorate our new home. We learned so much from her. Thank you Styled & Staged.” Share and Jim It takes teamwork to sell a house …

Little Tweaks Can Make a Huge Difference in Staging

These two bedrooms and bathrooms were lovely just the way they were – they just needed a few tweaks.  People are always amazed with how little changes can make a huge difference right in front of their very eyes. More Furniture Was Needed I was extremely lucky that they already had beautiful silk floor-to-ceiling drapes for drama and a beautiful bed with the upholstered headboard. Bringing in night tables and mercury glass lamps elevated the elegance.   The extra lighting was very important since there is no ceiling light. Adding the additional coverlet and accent cushions make the room feel …

How to Create an Ecletic Look in Staging

One of the biggest challenges when Staging a house for resale, is making the homeowner’s furnishings blend with the Staging props.  Most buyers want a new and modern look but in reality, most homes are not like that.  It’s my job to update the homes while still keeping the integrity of the homes and use as much of the homeowner’s furniture and accessories to keep everyone’s costs down.  It’s a hard juggling act to balance and create an eclectic look. Antiques Versus New The homeowners had already moved a lot of their furniture out of the home but they left …

Wow, What a Fireplace

When I first met with these homeowners, they were still completing their Rec room.  They didn’t have any furniture to put in it for showings, but we figured the room was stunning enough,  that buyers could easily see themselves living in the space. Unfinished Room The laminate barn board flooring was in keeping with the country setting of the home. It’s durable, attractive and comfortable on your feet.  The flooring also had to be practical since this is a major traffic flow out to the hot tub.  Filling the built-in book shelves gave the dark wood some depth.  The homeowners …

Major Transformation with Staging

I loved working on this project!  The Realtor and the homeowners went above and beyond what I suggested.  We all wanted to make sure the house was presented in it’s best form. Dramatic Entrance The front foyer is the first impression for buyers so you want to make sure it gives the ‘wow’ factor.  Remember, staging is different from living/decorating.  It can be challenging to live in a staged home but the better the house looks, the faster it will sell. The first thing buyers will now notice are the rich gray curved walls.  We pulled the colour from the …

Happy Thanksgiving from Styled & Staged

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving. We all have so much to be grateful for.  Remember, it’s the people around the table that are important, not what’s on the table.

You Have to Work Fast When Staging a House.

As I state in every blog, each home has a story with different time lines, budgets and abilities.  In this case, the homeowners put an offer on another house so they needed to get this house on the market FAST.  Between the homeowners, my team and the Realtor everyone worked hard and got the job done!  There wasn’t time to do any painting so I brought in accessories with their existing colour scheme. Furniture Placement The first priority I have when I stage a home is furniture placement.  It has to appeal to the masses and how the masses would …

Another Staged House Receives Multiple Bids.

When a homeowner is in the process of moving out before I stage their house, the biggest challenge is to decide what furniture really needs to stay and what can be removed so they have something to sleep or sit on at their other house. These homeowners were more than accommodating and were willing to do whatever I asked.  I’m so happy that they received offers right away so they can move everything into their new place. Open Up the Spaces There was too much furniture in this room and the sofa completely blocked the entrance into the dining room.  …
